Comparison of Bone Graft Healing Between Autogenous Bone, Blood Clot and Anorganic Bovine Bone Matrix: Radiographic and Histological Analyses International Journal of Morphology
Olate,Sergio; Duque Netto,Henrique; Klüppel,Leandro E; Vásquez,Bélgica; Miranda Chaves,Maria das Graças A; del Sol,Mariano.
Surgical procedures involving the rehabilitation of the maxillofacial region frequently require use of bone grafts. Bone graft follow-up is generally done through clinical analysis and especially through image tests, although few studies specifically correlate both. The object of this research was to establish a relation between radiographic exams and the bone repair process stage in created defect with autogenous bone, blood clot and anorganic bovine bone matrix. Three 8 mm diameter defects were performed in the parietal bone of 6 male adult beagle dogs, choosing the selected graft for each defects; 3 and 6 week period were used for radiographic and histological analyses. The result show that autogenous bone and blood clot were similar between...

Early Proliferation of Bone Marrow Mononuclear Cells on Collagen Membrane, Bone Graft and Tooth Cementum International Journal of Morphology
Milagres,Débora; Rueff-Barroso,Carlos R; Carvalho,Simone N; Carvalho,Laís de; Monte-Alto-Costa,Andréa; Fischer,Ricardo G; Porto,Luís Cristóvão.
The ultimate goal of periodontal therapy is to repair the damaged periodontal supporting tissues, permitting regeneration of the periodontal ligament. However, the cell response, the supportive matrix and the bioactive molecules use have not yet been well established. Bone marrow mononuclear cells were extracted from rat femurs and tibiae and cultured on a cross-linked collagen membrane, bone graft, or molar tooth to compare cell attachment and early proliferation on these materials. Cell attachment was quantified by light microscopy at 24, 48 and 72h, and cell proliferation was observed under a SEM after 72h. After 24h, the number of cells on bone graft was similar to that of the control and more than twice compared to collagen membrane (q=7.473...

Electrical Stimulation in the Bone Repair of Defects Created in Rabbit Skulls International Journal of Morphology
Silva,C; Olate,S; Pozzer,L; Muñoz,M; Cantín,M; Uribe,F; de Albergaría-Barbosa,J. R.
Electrical stimulation has been used in different conditions for tissue regeneration. The aim of this study was to analyze the tissue response of defects created in rabbit skulls to electrical stimulation. Two groups were formed, each with 9 New Zealand rabbits; two 5 mm defects were made, one in each parietal, with one being randomly filled with autogenous bone extracted as particles and the other maintained only with blood clotting. The rabbits were euthanized at 8 weeks and 15 weeks to then study the samples collected histologically. In the 8-week analysis bone formation was observed in the defects in the test and control filled with bone graft, whereas the defects with clotting presented a very early stage of bone formation with abundant connective...

Evaluation of the presence of Leishmania infantum in bone stored in glycerol or sterilized by autoclave for cortical bone grafting Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Lopes,M.A.M.; Silva,S.O.; Amorim,I.F.G.; Tafuri,W.L.; Melo,M.N.; Rezende,C.M.F..
ABSTRACT This study was performed to evaluate the effects of autoclaving and storage in 85% glycerol on cortical bone from dogs infected with Leishmania sp. We used 42 cadavers with leishmaniasis. The dogs were evaluated for the presence of Leishmania sp. in culture of bone marrow and by culturing cortical bone. From the infected animals, we harvested 42 diaphysis of the right femur for culture of cortical bone before and after autoclaving or storage in glycerol. There was no significant difference in growth of the parasite in culture of bone marrow or cortical bone. There was no growth of Leishmania sp. in culture of samples after autoclaving or storage in glycerol. Both treatments were effective in preventing the growth of the parasite in vitro, so it...

Variation in the Repair of a Rib Graft used for Mandibular Reconstruction after 20 years International Journal of Morphology
Pozzer,Leandro; Olate,Sergio; de Moraes,Márcio; Asprino,Luciana; Barbosa,José Ricardo de Albergaría.
Mandibular reconstruction has been used in the last 100 years as a safe, effective and stable technique. Various types of grafts have been used, including the autogenous rib graft; the normal repair of this type of graft has been defined in some studies although some observations have been made indicating low predictability of the growth of this bone. The aim of this study was to report the case of a patient with a rib graft for mandibular reconstruction where after 20 years cartilaginous tissue was observed exclusively in the absence of bone tissue. A 61-year-old female patient presented in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service for dental implants. The patient had a history of 4 previous mandibular reconstructions; imaging showed no alterations to...
